Running can be a great way to stay active and healthy. For those living with lupus, it’s important to be cautious. While some people with lupus are able to run without any issues, others may experience joint pain, fatigue, or other symptoms. It’s important to listen to your body and take things slow.

Frequently Asked Questions
How can you run if you have Lupus?
This is a question that is best addressed with your medical professional about your personal situation. You can still run with Lupus but you just have to take extra precautions and spend more time preparing for runs.
What do you do if you start experiencing joint pain while running?
I have learned my body enough to know if it is an ache from running farther and building muscle or if it is a sharp pain that is an injury or Lupus joint pain. If it is a sharp pain or joint pain, I stop running and take time off before my next run and possibly consult my doctor if the pain does not go away.
How do you manage fatigue and other flare symptoms while running?
For me, it is important that I am well rested before I start a run. I always make sure to stretch and hydrate before, during and after my runs. I also make sure to have a healthy snack before I run to make sure I have enough fuel to get through the distance runs.
